2020 is a year that we’ll never forget.  While we have all learned the term “social distance”, this year has brought us together more than ever.  It has especially brought our community of cleaning business owners together as we all strive to find ways to adapt and survive in an ever-changing world.

As we look forward to the new year, this year perhaps more than ever before, we wanted to take a moment to look back briefly and review the topics that have been most popular in 2020.  The ranking is based solely on actual traffic as measured by Google Analytics.  Without further ado…

What You Have Been Reading in 2020

Starting a Cleaning Business1. Starting a Cleaning Business Checklist

By far, the most popular article of the year covers everything that you need to know when starting a cleaning business.  Not surprising, considering that many cleaning business owners who take advantage of Debbie Sardone’s coaching programs are just starting out on their journey toward becoming a Mop-free Millionaire.  The article is so popular, in fact, that we recently decided to expand upon the original article with even more in depth information.

2. How Much to Pay Your Cleaners

The second most popular article answers one of the first questions we receive when a cleaning business owner first starts out with Debbie’s programs.  How do you pay a competitive wage that will attract top talent and still remain profitable?  There’s more than one answer to the question and this article covers many of them.

3. Crisis Management: Reframing

COVID-19 essentially shut down the world in March and this popular article offered much needed advise for how to deal with the initial uncertainty and fear our existing clients felt during this crazy time.  However, reframing the narrative is certainly not unique to the COVID-19 crisis.  Being pro-active and in control of the narrative is useful on a daily basis when you are a small business owner.

4. How to Offer Move-Out Cleaning Services

This specific How-To was created as a direct result of having received the question so often from cleaning business owners.   It’s inclusion in this list is evidence enough that it is indeed a popular topic.  And offering Move-Out Cleaning Services is a critical part of any maid service looking to grow.

5. Do You Know the Essential Numbers For Your Cleaning Business?

How do you know if you are profitable?  How much is each new customer worth to your bottom line? How much are you losing because you are not always able to accommodate a new customer?  Numbers don’t lie and knowing your essential numbers helps you identify where you have room for improvement and therefore helps you become more profitable!

6. How to Train Your Cleaners

Another incredibly common question we receive is related to training new-hires.  In fact, training is a huge part of Debbie’s Cleaning Business Fundamentals program.   It is not a topic easily covered in a single article, but this post does a great job of covering the high points.

7. How to Create a Million Dollar Cleaning Business That Runs Itself:  Secret #1

The CBF program was literally created to help cleaning business owners become Mop-free Millionaires and create a business that eventually can run without the owner having to be involved at each and every step.   You could argue that a secret divulged in a blog post isn’t actually a secret, but sometimes something becomes a secret simply because so few people are aware of it.

8. Pricing Your Maid Services

Getting your pricing just right is a tricky process.  You don’t want to lose out on business because you’re too high and you don’t want to leave money on the table because you’re too low.  While the specifics of your prices is highly dependent upon the market you’re in, this article covers the various factors that you should consider when you are deciding how much to charge for your cleaning services.

9. Lessons Learned From My Mother

Absolutely thrilled to see this one make the list!  A highly personal entry, Debbie shares four things she learned from her mother that influence her both personally and professionally.  This year, in honor of her Mom’s 90th birthday, she shared 5 Things I Learned From My Mom.

10. COVID-19 Crisis Management: Be Calm and Reassure

The first post, published March 20th, to address the COVID-19 Crisis and its potential impact on the cleaning industry, emphasized the importance of responding rather than reacting.  It also served as the perfect lead-in to one of the most attended (virtual) programs of the year, The 10-Day Coronavirus Response Challenge.

Let’s Have a Happy New Year!

As we anxiously flip the calendar to 2021, let’s collectively do a virtual toast to next year being the best year ever!  And make sure to connect with Debbie and never miss a thing!  Join the mailing list and follow Debbie on your favorite social media site.
