When starting a new maid business, the to-do list might be overwhelming. The top of your list might be filled with thoughts about spreadsheets, hiring, and overhead costs. One of the things that needs to make that list is positive reviews. If you want to grow your cleaning business, positive reviews are one of the most effective ways to do it.

Getting Positive Reviews for Your New Maid Business

These days, the world revolves around the internet. Chances are, your customers feel that same way. They will undoubtedly be checking and re-checking your company’s reviews online before deciding to hire you. If you have too many negative reviews (or just a few negative reviews with the same complaints) your clients will probably go elsewhere. Reviews can make or break your business, and that’s why positive reviews are one of the most important places to put your energy.

It can feel a little awkward to ask your clients for positive reviews. You might be concerned about “putting them out” or sounding unprofessional. But the truth is, all businesses ask. They might have different ways of asking, but they all end up asking in some way or another. You can’t grow your business without those reviews, so it’s important that you learn how to ask in a way that makes both you and your customers comfortable. Let’s take a look at just a couple creative ways to ask for reviews.

Through advertising.

How do you usually advertise? Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, Craigslist? Whenever you put out a new add or promotion, add a little note at the bottom asking for those reviews. Feel free to be friendly with your phrasing. You can say something like “are you enjoying our services? Leave us a review!” People want to support small businesses. Sometimes they just need a gentle reminder. Studies show that people are more likely to leave a negative review after a bad experience than they are to leave a positive review after a good one. This isn’t because people don’t care. It is just because they often need a little nudge to leave those good reviews.

Through incentive.

Sometimes people need a little push! Feel free to offer your clients a little incentive if they leave you a review. Everyone loves coupons, discounts, and free things. Try running a contest online where your customers will be entered to win something if they “like” your page on Facebook and leave a review. You could even offer 5% off of their next cleaning service if they take the time to leave you a review on Yelp. If you need some incentive ideas, Debbie Sardone has some good tips. On your answering machine.

If your business has an answering machine, this is a good opportunity to casually ask people to leave a review. You could say something like “don’t forget to leave us a review on Google!” at the end of your greeting.

3 Ways that Positive Reviews Will Help Your Business

  1. They help your company earn a reputation. People in your community will gravitate towards your positive reviews, and as a result, they will be able to gauge who you are based on what others say about you. When people leave you reviews, they’re building your reputation (good or bad). Positive reviews build the positive reputation of your company, which will help you acquire more high-quality clients.
  2. Positive reviews help to cancel out the negative ones. Part of owning a business is the occasional unsatisfied customer. It’s unfortunate, but it’s typically unavoidable. The last thing you want is a review page that has nothing but one negative review on it. The more positive reviews you get, the higher the number of stars you get. If you have 200 positive reviews and only 3-4 negative ones, those negative reviews will most likely float to the bottom. Your positive reviews will be the focus, and they will be the deciding factors in the number of stars your company has earned. If you have one positive review and one negative review, you’re going to have 2.5 stars out of 5. The goal is to get enough positive reviews to cancel out the negatives and make the negatives look like flukes.
  3. They help in boosting customer engagement. Online platforms are one of the best places to chat with your customers. Reviews are a good excuse to reply to a customer – thanking them for their comments or concerns. A good reply to a comment or review will leave a good impression with your customers. Creating that kind of engagement is priceless. Your replies will show that you care, and people like to be taken care of.

Responding to Reviews

On the other side of the coin, you need to be careful about the kind of replies you leave. It is easy to get angry when someone leaves a bad review about your business. After all, your time, energy, and resources all go into what you do. It is very easy to take a bad comment personally. If and when you do receive a negative review, it’s important to take your customer’s comments into consideration and thank them for their feedback. Keep your tone professional to show others that you can keep calm under pressure. Never let your replies become emotional.

Once you get the hang of asking for positive feedback, it becomes natural and easy. Like we mentioned earlier, people want to help small businesses. If they like you, they’ll undoubtedly want your business to succeed. They’ll feel happy to help. Whatever you do, just remember that your business will not thrive as quickly or efficiently without positive reviews. It’s better to ask then to say nothing and risk losing your company! There are always fun and creative ways to ask, and eventually you’ll have so many that you won’t need to ask anymore. This is one of the easiest ways to grow your business (and it’s free!)
